Built and owned by the South Carolina & Georgia Railroad Company, this sixteen-mile road was completed on August 7, 1899, and was thereafter operated as part of the South Carolina & Georgia Railroad system. | |||||
This railroad began as the Sumter & Wateree Rail Road, first chartered in 1882. The original company struggled and its charter was amended several times to grant more time for construction. | |||||
