* Note - there were two Captains from Pitt County. This man was in the NC Minutemen and NC Militia.

The other Capt. James Armstrong was in the 2nd NC Regiment from its inception on 9/1/1775, and was later the Colonel/Commandant of the 8th NC Regiment, then the 4th NC Regiment.

A third Capt. James Armstrong was from in the NC Militia from Rowan County.
