Brief History of Regiment:

Sumter commissioned Wade Hampton as a Colonel in March of 1781. In the Spring of 1781, BG Thomas Sumter was authorized to establish new regiments of State Troops and Wade Hampton's regiment was officially named the SC 1st Regiment of State Troops.
